Pain In The Neck
Well, the pain isn't in my neck, actually. The pain is in my head, my melon. I never get headaches. Ever. I just don't. In the last month I've had 2, count them, 2, debilitating headaches. I would guess they are of the migraine variety. How do I know? Both sent me sprinting to toss my cookies. Pretty, huh?
I know this is stress/job related but I'm not sure how to deal with it. I don't want to resort to medication if I don't have to. Anyone out there get migraines? I'm all ears, tell me what ya'll do to not get them and what you do to make them easier to deal with.
Edited to add: 8-5-06 I'm headache free since my last whopper, headache that is, not cheeseburger. I made an appointment with my GP to get my melon checked on Tuesday. I need some blood work done so I might as well do it all with one co-pay. I'll let ya'll know what she says.

I got nothing, I get stress headaches about once a month. I've been told they can also be hormone induced. I usually just take a warm bath, 3 Advil and go to bed. Lying in a quiet dark room seems to do the trick.
I've been fighting off headaches for the past couple of days and I've had another friend here in town tell me the same thing so there could be something in the air here in SA perhaps? However, with your new job and all I do think that stress could have alot to do with them too. I'm sorry this is happening however if it begins to interfere with work, you should probably talk to your Dr.
My friend Sally would give herself a shot of medication in her thigh at the onset. But, she is a nurse. I don't think you would like to do that. I say take the advil and turn off the lights. But, if it continues please discuss it with your doctor.
All the good advice has been given, so I'll just focus on the chuckle i got from a "pain in my melon"...hee hee. How juvenile of me, huh? :D
Btw...congrats on the weightloss...wonderful to hear that it's making you happy. :) Keep up that great work.
Hugs!

B-The hormone thing did cross my mind....
Jana-I was wondering if the allegens in the air were causing it too......
C-more-Tell Sally to hook me up with some DRUGS!!!!! I won't tell, it's just between us.....
Sam-Thank you, thank you, I appreciate it.
I always lay flat on my stomach, no pillow, in a dark, very cool, no noise room. I also take 4 Advil. If I think it's muscular related, then I use this awesome stuff from Bath & Body Works. Eucalyptus spearmint massage oil. Have the hubby work that into your muscles at night... it's so relaxing... *snore*
Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS on losing over 50 lbs.! You go GIRL!
The first non-medicinal migraine fixer I can think of that would help reduce your stress is journaling. Non-blogging kind of journaling. Write it all out in a notebook kind of journaling.
Mine are always hormonal.
If you can catch it when the first twinges start, DO NOT IGNORE IT or think it will get better by itself. Take something immediately. For me, that's the biggest key.
Usually, I try to take two excedrin. The combo that's in that pill usually helps. If not, a couple hours later, it's more drugs (like 3-4 advil) and a dark room. Also, a cold compress to the base of your neck can help. Making sure you're hydrated, too, is important.
(hug)
I'd actually like to wait to see what your test results say. However, if they're musculoskeletal in origin, I can help you.
I get migraines occasionally, and I learned once I start getting those flashes of light (like someone took a flash pic right in my face), I take a couple of excedrin tension headache. It actually does stop it before it gets bad. It doesn't make you tired either.
I've always been a headache sufferer, although once I finished puberty (back in April) they settled down a lot. I've had all sorts of prescriptions and none of them did much, except for one that was a cocktail of 3 different medicines. A pain reliever, a steroid to reduce inflammation, and a muscle relaxer. Truth be told I could still feel the headache, but once the muscle relaxer kicked in, who cares? :)
Man, I knew Jethro would be all over this. :-) Good luck with it. Headaches that make you barf are the worst. I usually feel that I have a very strong will to live until I get one of those headaches and then I'm like, "Take me now, Mother of God."
"hello?" "hello?" Is anyone there?
I'm here everyone, just very busy. I'll try and post soon and give ya'll an update.
Whew, I was getting worried!
I have been looking for sites like this for a long time. Thank you! »
